After graduation from medical school, most of docs dream of doing something different than their teachers, but there are those who try to follow their teachers who have spent more than 3 decades in the west. But it’s not as easy to for the doctors to develop medical career as ones in other fields as they need to acquire a medical license there too by appearing in an exam taken by them in order to work study in that country. Though, it’s challenging too, they accept it as hard work always gives us pleasure.
Nepali docs go to the west looking for new specialty like sport medicine, trauma management, cosmetics Surgery and many more. They also want to earn more (than in their country) during residency. It has been found that doc earn more then US$ 4000/month during residency in US. But after their PG they are highly paid. Now it has been found that, not only from IOM doc are going abroad, a lot but doc from different other medical colleges are heading off to faraway land and many are still preparing for it. They have curved different aim in their life so they don’t give exam in their countries for PG. Some docs take it as fashion to go abroad though a high score in USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) is required in order to get admission over there and in order to prepare for these exams u need to be jobless, study more then 1.5 yrs in your home.
It’s not as easy and charming during preparation. It would be fruitful after your successful preparation. Surprising more then 70% docs apply for US which they call it as dreamland and heaven. Others apply for country like UK, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Germany and many more. For young chap it’s a great opportunity but hardly few of them only return back to their homeland. In the past those who had gone to foreign country had returned to use their skill in treating patient here at home. But those who have been going abroad in the recent past do not wish to come back and serve their county. If this trend continues soon our country will face the South African scenario.
