….Bhujhina maile timro maya..
jaba timi ma sanga thiyou…
jaba mahasus gare maile tara..
timi tadha vai sakyou…
yaad aaucha timile bhaneka kuraharu……
aaja ma eklo chu..
Paschatap ma jali rehechu……

These beautiful lines have hit the Nepali music industry by storm. The singer is non other then Dibya Subba, son of a veteran musician late Kewal Subba who had served at Radio Nepal. Having been brought up in a musical environment it is no wonder Dibya has entered the music industry. Moreover his success too is not a matter of surprise as he was taught music from non other than Kuwal Subba. He was raised up in a musical environment and it was none other than his father himself who taught him music. Apart from that he learned classical music from Do Re Me School under the guidance of Gurudev Kamat for three years. Dibya had even participated in ‘Nepal Star’-a talent hunt program organized by Nepal 1 and he stood himself to the last 15.

His debut album ‘Pratha’ is doing reasonably well in the market, the album has enabled him to establish some sort of recognization in the music industry. One of his number “Paschatap” is even striking the musical chart. In praise of his vocal talent one of the magazines wrote “Dibya’s vocals stand out in the beautifully composed Paschatap.”

He sold his motor bike and guitar to pay for the song recordings of his debut album, “Pashchatap” and according to him, this experience has taught him a lot in life. But, now his hard work and utmost determination has paid off and he is the present shining star of our music industry after winning the Image Awards as the debut singer of the year.

Yes, recently he was honored with the title of ‘Best New Artist of the Year at 8th Annual Image Awards’. I too was happy for him, thinking that his hard work and sacrifice had been rewarded. As I have seen many talented artists struggling. Recently all my good feelings for him has changed as I found out that this beautiful song of his is nothing but a carbon-copy.

One of my Pilipino classmate was playing her native songs in the classroom an suddenly I felt like I had heard that song. I was so sure I had heard it before I asked her to replay that song. Then it hit me that its same as Dibya Subba’s chart topper song Paschatap. Throughout the song the tune is same. The only difference is the original song is in bit high scale and Paschatap is in bit low scale as compared to the original.

The original song is by one of the top Pilipino band Aegis and the song’s name is Halik. The music is so similar that the only conclusion I could come up with is that Dibya Subba had copied Aegis’s creation. And as is the case with many of our artist I felt that it’s Dibya who has made a mistake. It’s not Dibya’s fault alone. Actually it’s wrong to accuse him of wrong doing when the entire music industry has been affected by the copying disease. Even top artists have not been able to stay away from it. But my question is why do they do it. Originality and creativity separates their work from the others.

It’s for those very things that people spend their hard earned money and respect musician, singers, artists. I don’t know about others but I had not expected this of Dibya. As I believed he would understand the it better than most as be himself comes from a musical family. Why can’t he follow his fathers trends rather then copying foreign music ? I even read a comment in one of the top magazine stating that Paschatap is beautifully composed ?? But who is the original composer of that tune ? Nobody cared to find out.

On top of it for the copy song he was awarded with the most prestigious Nepali music awards “Image Award” in the category Best New Artist of the year. If its the trend then I suggest all the new comers to copy one unheard foreign song then you will definitely win a title in upcoming awards. No one will dare to explore whether its original creation or its a copy.

Whatever, My suggestion to all singers, “come up with original creations and promote pure Nepali Music.” As it will help us in the long run.

If you still don’t believe, the link to The original song “Halik” by “Aegis” is:
